University Of Venda Tablets, SOME 13 000 students of the University of Venda (Univen) have already received computer tablets and will now be able to register their courses online, type assignments, browse the internet and download information.
Univen vice-chancellor and principal, Prof Peter Mbati, said the university aimed to improve the quality of learning and teaching. He further said the project was the first of its kind in South Africa.
We have invested more than R40 million for the project of handing over computer tablets to registered students and we hope the teaching and learning at the campus will improve. The eventual distribution of computer tablets to all students will enhance the quality of teaching and learning as well as research and this will enable students to be competitive and relevant in this century,” Mbati said.
“The handover of computer tablets to students demonstrates the university’s commitment to encourage students to be technologically advanced.”
Vhembe acting mayor, Lucy Mulaudzi, applauded the project and said it was written in the ANC’s Freedom Charter that the door of learning must open to all.
“Our government has prioritised education and we also have the Executive Mayor’s Bursary Fund to help those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds,” Mulaudzi said.
Speaking on behalf of the students, student representative council presidents, Mpho Mutobvu, said they were grateful that technological advances showed people more efficient ways to do things.
“Education has been improved with technological advances, and students will be able to learn on a global scale, without leaving their rooms,” Mutobvu said.
