The Wits Faculty of Health Sciences remains a leading research hub on the continent and in the world and our research continues to impact directly on improving and saving the lives of people every day.
The Faculty and its associated entities and partners provide a vibrant environment within which some of the best research in the world is undertaken.
In partnership with the Gauteng Health Department, we employ over 800 medical and dental consultants who are involved in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates and in the research programmes. We graduate approximately 500 students each year.
Our students receive academic training and practical experience in five major hospitals in Johannesburg, the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre as well as several clinics and rural hospitals in Gauteng. As part of the University of Witwatersrand’s academic teaching hospital complex, the role of the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre is to assist clinicians with all aspects of their clinical research.

Occupational Therapy
Our programmes aim to enhance, develop and promote occupational therapy and rehabilitation, and influence policy development through our participation and contribution to education, the profession, research and community engagement opportunities both in South Africa and the global village.
Physiotherapy
The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy enables you to work in hospitals, clinics, private practice, schools for children with disabilities, as well as in sports with sports teams or individuals.
Oral Hygiene
The Oral Hygiene program primarily aims to produce graduates that will prevent oral disease and promote oral health and well-being of individuals in socio-economically diverse communities.
Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice (BCMP)
This exciting 3 year degree will provide you with the necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills to work in a district hospital as a Clinical Associate, under the supervision of a doctor.
