Sports

Sport at Nerina is all about participation, gaining friends and having fun- on and off the field! Over the years, we have been known to take part in all the sporting codes that TuksRes has to offer. We believe in maintaining a healthy balance between academics and exercising.
There is no need to be a “pro”. If you want to try out something different such as soccer, netball, volleyball or any other sports, university is the time to try it out and res offers this at no additional cost.
The First Years’ are fortunate enough to take part in an exciting event called “Drastoel” during the first few months of their University journey. This is a relay race which involves teams of 6 to 8 who run holding a metal frame which has bricks. The change overs are always thrilling and the event is a highlight of the beginning of the year. The First Years’ are lucky again as they have the opportunity to show off their athletic abilities at “Ienkathletics”. This event is always tremendous fun- whether you are taking part as an athlete or you are cheering your res mates on. It is an exciting evening that includes track and field events. Individuals are recognised for their efforts and points are given to each residence according to the participation. What’s great about the event is the residence which has the most spirit on the evening gets recognised too! Nerina proves to have plenty of spirit because we have won the Spirit Cup more than once, including wins in 2015 and 2016. On that warm February evening, the Spriete get a real taste of sport at Tuks thanks to its well organisation and its electric atmosphere.
We also love supporting our University sports teams. The house usually organises tickets for the ladies of the house to go watch popular TuksSport events such as the Varsity Cup games.
Each respective sporting code is managed by a Nerina young lady which promotes leadership and learning how to organise and work with diverse characters. Nerina can be identified by its navy and tre blue sports uniform on and off the field.
Playing the sport does not make the whole sport portfolio alone. Support is essential for the ladies to perform and cheerleaders and supporters always have fun upholding Nerina’s name for being the house with the most spirit, camaraderie and sportswomanship.
