University Of Kwazulu Natal Industrial Psychology, Undergraduate studies are open to all students. They are designed to make up a disciplinary major in a general degree in psychology, a structured degree in psychology, as well as stand-alone majors modules covering material relevant to a wide range of degrees and programmes.
FIRST YEAR MODULES
The first year course, PSYC 101 (Introduction to Psychology A) and PSYC 102 (Introduction to Psychology B) are taught through three or four lectures a week. Each course is assessed using continuous assessment tests (including multiple choice and written paragraph questions) as well as end of semester examinations. Topics covered include: Intelligence, Memory, Brain and Behaviour, Perceiving the World, States of Consciousness, Conditioning and Learning, Child Development, Personality, Psychological Disorders, Therapies, Social Behaviour Attitudes, and Psychological research
SENIOR UNDERGRADUATE MODULES (LEVELS 200/300)
The second and third year courses comprise modules in General and Industrial Psychology as well as elective courses.
Level 200: Students wishing to major in General Psychology are required to register for compulsory modules in Research (16 credits), Social Psychology (8 credit points), and Developmental Psychology (8 credits); with a further 16 credit points being obtained from elective courses. Those students who wish to major in Industrial Psychology are required to register for: Introduction to Research (16 credits), Organisational Theory (8 credits) Individual Group and Organisational Process (8 credits), Work and Careers (8 credits), and Psychology at Work (8 credits). Finally, students who wish to complete a double major in Psychology are required to meet all the requirements for both General and Industrial Psychology at the 200 level.
Level 300: Students wishing to major in General Psychology are required to register for compulsory modules in Research (16 credits), Psychology of Personality (8 credit points), and Cognitive Psychology (8 credits); with a further 16 credit points being obtained from elective courses. Those students who wish to major in Industrial Psychology are required to register for: Organisational Development (16 credits), Labour Relations (16 Credits), Learning for the Workplace (16 credits), and Work Health and Ergonomics (16 credits). Finally, students who wish to complete a double major in Psychology are required to meet all the requirements for both General and Industrial Psychology at the 300 level.

PSYCHOLOGY HONOURS
This is an academically intensive year, covering a range of both theoretical and applied courses, and including the completion of a research project. Arrangements can be made for multidisciplinary honours degrees, combining psychology with other disciplines. Selection for Honours is based on academic merit, with students who obtain a Psychology 300 mark of 70% or more being more likely to be successful applicants.
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN PSYCHOLOGY
The school is one of the leading professional training centres in the country, with the Howard College Campus offering postgraduate qualifications, including supervised supervision, leading to registration as a Psychological Counsellor, a Clinical Psychologist, a Counselling Psychologist, or an Industrial Psychologist. Competition for entry to these courses is tough and admission is by a multi-factored selection procedure.
MASTERS BY COURSE WORK
In addition to professional training, the school offers an internationally recognised coursework masters programme in Health Promotion.
MASTERS AND DOCTORAL DEGREES BY RESEARCH
The school offers postgraduate degrees by research in Critical Psychology, as well as postgraduate degrees by research in areas of specialisation of the staff.
