University Of Cape Town International Relations

University Of Cape Town International Relations

University Of Cape Town International Relations, The GSB fosters a bold international community which celebrates the diverse and international opinions of students. We pride ourselves in hosting fellow-Africans from beyond the borders of our country, and our global students from beyond the borders of our continent. In terms of exchange partnerships, we choose schools with excellent reputations and rankings that will be attractive and beneficial to our students and the GSB as a whole.

The GSB has partnerships with some of the world’s leading business schools, including MBA exchange programmes with 45 business schools on all five continents. In terms of exchange partnerships, we choose schools with excellent reputations and rankings that will be attractive and beneficial to our students and the GSB as a whole. Our partner schools in the USA, for example, include Duke University Fuqua School of Business, Cornell University Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management as well as Kellogg, UCLA Anderson, and Yale Schools of Management. Our global exchange partnerships offer UCT GSB students a tremendous opportunity to spend at least one term studying abroad, without the burden of paying international student fees.
In addition to going abroad on exchange semesters to our partner schools, GSB students have the option of a one-week global immersion programme through the GNAM Association. The GSB is the only South African school and one of 29 member schools in the network. GNAM fosters substantive ties among the world’s leading business schools from both economically strong countries and those on the horizon of economic development. By being part of this network, GSB students have the opportunity to study at any one of these elite schools for intensive one-week programmes, and we likewise offer GNAM students options at the GSB. Other opportunities available to GSB students through the GNAM network include an array of online courses, global case study competitions, and an increasingly active GNAM Alumni network.
There are a number of different options for GSB students to participate in an exchange programme abroad, ranging from one week to 3 months.
For normal exchanges, tuition fees at host schools are waived, but students are responsible for their travel, accommodation, visa, medical and subsistence fees.
We currently have 45 partner schools on the full semester exchange and / or  short exchange opportunities, and another 32 leading global business schools for the GNAM week that you can choose from for your exchange opportunity.
There are three options for GSB students to participate in an international experience:

  1. Exchange for a term/semester
This is when you choose a school and stay with them for a whole term. This is usually between 3-6 months or can be as short as 6 weeks, depending on the school. More information are available in the various schools’ fact sheets. For more information about each school, students should go to Vula to view Exchange Fact Sheets, exchange application deadlines and application forms.
  2. Summer Schools
There are several schools who run short-term exchange programmes, which specialise in a particular discipline. These include Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), ESSEC (France), Jönköping International Business School (Sweden), WHU in Vallender and Düsseldorf (Germany), PBC School of Finance, Tsinghua University (China), the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), Warsaw School of Economics, Toulouse Business School and UCLA Anderson School of Management (Los Angeles). For more information about each school, students should go to Vula to view Exchange Fact Sheets, exchange application deadlines and application forms.
  3. Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM)
The GSB is a member of The Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), which gives you more opportunities to study abroad, especially when you don’t have much free time. For more information about GNAM, please visit http://advancedmanagement.net. In 2016 GSB students participated in GNAM network immersion weeks at inter alia IE Business School in Madrid, Yale School of Management, HKUST in Hong Kong and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in Geneva, Switzerland. Other options included FGV-EASP in Brazil, Hitotsubashi ICS in Japan, Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia in Canada, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Israel, and EGADE Business School in Mexico.

Applications for the GSB Exchange Programme are open and close on the 30 June.
Applications for GNAM will open in November.
Further information will appear on this web page, so watch this space.

The GSB’s exchange programme enables students to spend a semester at an international university to gain a fresh perspective on their development. Students typically go on exchange in January after they have completed their course work. Although they do not obtain credits for courses they take, they are given a certificate listing the courses attended.
Students are exempt from educational fees at exchange universities but must take responsibility for their travel, accommodation and other costs.
