Applied Research Methodology in Security Science – SEP4801

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to build and foster an understanding of existing research philosophies, theories, practices and approaches in order to apply such when a student undertakes practical research related to the discipline of Security Science. Purpose: To provide students with an introduction and general orientation to security risk control measures (recommendations and solutions to security risks). An overview of the various categories of security risk control measures and concepts is provided in order to contextualize this module in relation to the protective security risk control function as a whole. The student will learn how to identify and implement effective security risk control measures that must be applied in order that vulnerable assets can be protected from identified security (crime) risks. Furthermore the student will learn how to make recommendations regarding these identified security measures.

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide students with a theoretical and practical framework in compiling a project plan, related to the security industry, as well as the implementation thereof. The student will also be capable of compiling, drafting and presenting an effective security risk management report to his/her clients. Overviews of various relevant theoretical statistical and security risk management theories, principles and concepts, which must be applied, are conveyed to students.
