How to get in?

  • Knowledge, comprehension and application of the English language at NQF 2/Grade 10 or equivalent

Time you will spend on the course

The programme duration is 48 hours and the tuition is face-to-face based on the NQF notional hours. This excludes time to complete assignments, research and self study. Each Damelin campus has a different tuition schedule. Programmes are offered during the week, in the evenings, or on Saturdays.

The strength in your qualification

Upon successful completion of the programme, ICB will issue learners with a Results Letter outlining the modules covered. The ICB will apply to FASSET on the learner’s behalf for the Skills Programme in Business Law and Administrative Practice to be awarded. Learner results will be recorded on the ICB National Learner Records Database within 3 months of completion.
**Whenever Damelin offers training towards a programme that will be awarded by another provider or institute, it is called an Agent Programme. In the case of an Agent Programme, Damelin registers the learners, provides tuition and conducts internal assessments. External examinations with the agent body will result in learners receiving the certificate from them.

Skills Programme in General Principles of Commercial Law (CIS)

Part Time | This is part of an accredited programme with the CIS (Chartered Institute of Secretaries Southern Africa)**, namely
National Certificate in Business Administration SAQA 60151 NQF 6 Credits 120, and when successfully completed, will constitute 30 credits towards the abovementioned qualification registered on the NQF.

This Skills Programme is part of the CIS Professional Qualification in Management and Administration which provides the learner with the knowledge and skills that can be applied in a variety of entities as well as an understanding of their philosophy and operational requirements. It also provides a step to a higher phase of learning in governance, administration and finance, and widens the learner’s opportunities for advancement.
The learner will be equipped with the primary skills to handle a variety of administrative functions within the scope of financial, contractual, information technology, economic and communication skills. This infers the ability to absorb new learning as well as being able to apply the learning to a variety of familiar and new situations.
The full qualification is recorded against the CIS Professional Qualification: Management and Administration, with SAQA ID No. 60651 (129 credits).

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the law relating to a range of contracts
  • Contracts for purchase and sale, letting and hiring, lease and suretyship, transfer and acquisition of ownership, restraint of trade, National Credit Act
  • The law of agency as it affects companies, close corporations, partnerships and third parties
  • Law of partnership, law of delict, law of insurance, law of insolvency excepting the provisions of the Companies Act regarding liquidations and judicial management

Only on completion of 3 modules towards the full qualification will the learner be awarded a Certificate with a FASSET endorsement. Course Introduction

Legal assistants or paralegals must have extensive knowledge of the law and the administration of justice. Their duties may include: liaising with clients of their employers to assist in solving legal problems, legal research, preparing cases for court and liaising with the public. This programme is uniquely designed to impart a comprehensive overview of all aspects of paralegal specialisation and an understanding of individual rights and the rights of others. The Diploma: Paralegal offers the use and application of skills and competencies related to Criminal Law and Procedure, Civil Litigation, Wills and Estates, Property Law and Conveyancing as well as Legal Office Practice Management and Debt Collecting.

Entrance Requirements
